ROOTED TRANSIENCE

For “Rooted Transience”, an architectural installation showcased as a Collateral Event of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, we produced an interactive VR video that allows viewers to immerse themselves in the redefined spatial experience of the musalla.

Curated by Faysal Tabbarah and presented for the AlMusalla Prize 2025, promoted by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, the project originates from the concept On Weaving by EAST Architecture, in collaboration with Rayyane Tabet and AKT II.

Inspired by the typology of musalla — temporary prayer spaces — the installation offers a contemporary and sustainable reinterpretation, constructed using date palm trunks and woven fibers.
Rooted Transience thus becomes a dialogue between tradition and innovation, where sustainability and transience merge into a new architectural vision.

For Black Engineering, our team handled the production of immersive video content, capturing 360° footage on-site in Jeddah during the construction phases of the installation.
The collected material — spherical videos, photographs, and 3D scans — was then processed to create an interactive virtual reality experience, viewable through Oculus within the Venice Biennale exhibition.

Through this combination of physical documentation and virtual experience, we helped transform Rooted Transience from a simple architectural installation into a spatial experience accessible to a global audience, capable of transcending space and time while amplifying the project’s narrative and conceptual depth.
